I understand why people initially feel that way, in regards to the question of it being 'demeaning' - so I didn't want your comment to be ignored. You can tell a lot about a public figure by how they choose to go on TV. Makeup, and the techniques used, are compelling especially if you grew up in a culture of wearing makeup.

Makeup, as a trade, isn't always about 'beauty'. Sometimes it's about what is seen on camera-- like how a gaffer adjusts lighting, or what type of lens is used. And sometimes a person reveals themselves by their specific style. Many feminine skills and trades are seen as frivolous, even though they are essential-- especially in regards to TV production. I've written about men in politics and their glam routine, as well. Every face, no matter the gender, is compelling.
